State Unani Medical College & Hakeem Ahmad Husain Republic Day Memorial Hospital (HAHRDM) serves as a beacon of traditional healing, medical education, and public service in the heart of Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh. With a legacy rooted in service, scholarship, and Unani healing traditions, the institution has grown into a premier center for undergraduate and postgraduate Unani medical education, patient care, and community health development.
🌟 Our Founder: A Visionary in Unani Medicine
The foundation of the college was laid by the illustrious Allama Hakim Ahmad Husain Usmani (1859–1933)—a revered Unani physician, scholar, and freedom-era visionary. Inspired by his deep commitment to humanity and traditional healing, he established the Tibbi Madarsa in 1904 at his residence in Sabzimandi, Allahabad. This humble beginning evolved into a full-fledged Unani Medical College, which was later provincialized by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1982.
Hakim Ahmad Husain’s remarkable life was marked by resilience, dedication, and intellect. A scholar of Mantiq wa Falsafa and a student of renowned Unani masters, he practiced medicine in Calcutta before returning to Allahabad. His role during the plague epidemic and his association with Hakim Ajmal Khan highlight his stature in the field. Beyond medicine, his scholarly contribution includes translating the historic works of Ibn Khaldun into Urdu, earning him literary acclaim.
Today, his final resting place lies within the campus—a lasting tribute to his legacy.
